"Vetayadu Villayadu" creates city record !!!!!

Kamal Hassan’s Vetayadu Vilayadu directed by Gautham Menon & music by Harris Jeyaraj has become the highest collecting film at the Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai. The film distributed by Oscar Films, has taken a record Rs 61.5 Lakhs in 63 days (9 weeks) as share from the theatre. Vetayadu Vilayadu has broken the one-year-old record created by Oscar’s Anniyan, of Rs 60 Lakhs share from Sathyam Cinemas. VV has been able to achieve this in less number of days due to tax exemption and high ticket rates. Meanwhile VV has also been able to create a new Mount Road record by collecting a distributors share of Rs 61.5 Lakhs (Sathyam Cinemas) Rs 18 Lakhs (Melody) and Rs 37 Lakhs (Albert, though in Egmore is considered as a Mount Road theatre by trade). A total of Rs 1. 16 Crore share from Mount Road area alone! Hats off to Gautham Menon, Kamal Hassan and ‘Oscar’ Ravichandran

Meet the characters from Mani Ratnam's Guru

Guru Kant Desai – Abhishek Bachchan
There’s a saying in our village, if people say bad things about you, you must be doing something good. Sounds true, doesn’t it?
Sujatha – Aishwarya Rai
I hated my father for forcing me to marry Guru. But I was sent away to Bombay to live with my unwanted husband and my anger in a one-room chawl. I don’t know when I stopped thinking of him as a stranger and started calling him Guru. I was too shy to say things like I love you, but love was perfume I wore everyday. Some people call him God, some say he is evil, but for me he is the man who has to just enter the room and I can feel that perfume waft its way across and settle on me… that perfume called love…
Manikdas Guptha (Nanaji) – Mithun Chakravarthy
Swathantra – is the newspaper I run, and the newspaper runs me. Gurubhai was like a son to me, when I met him first on the streets of Bombay. He had righteous anger and a desire to achieve his goals. I liked that. He was in a hurry to make his own way. I liked that even more. When others told me that Gurubhai was not all white, I thought they were envious of him and ignored them. That was my mistake. No cost is too great in the pursuit of truth. And in my fight for the truth I knew that I’d either destroy Guru or myself. And I was prepared for both.
Shyam Saxena – R. Madhavan
Gurukanth Desai should be put in a jail and the keys should be thrown away. It’s not just that he is evil, but he awakens the evil in everyone. Gurubhai flirted with the law and the lawmakers, did anything and everything to enhance his business, and then buried the laws and built a fountain on top of it to make the grave look pretty. Profit and the share price were the only two parameters that mattered to him. Right and wrong, just and unjust were incidental. I will fight him and the Gurus of this world till the very end.
Meenu – Vidya Balan
I met Gurubhai when I was seven years old. He was the only one who never asked me why I limped. While Nanaji and Shyam could only see what Gurubhai had done, I could see why he had done it. When you run fast you do kick up a lot of dust. But dust always settles. I could see it from my wheelchair but Nanaji could not. I like fights. And this one where everyone I loved was fighting each other was exciting. They cared but they fought. The contradiction was exactly like life. And I loved life. Especially when there was so little of it left.

AMEER on his latest film "Paruthi Veeran"

Friday, November 03, 2006,
Paruthi Veeran may be taking its time to reach the theatres. But it should be worth the wait, if you go by its director’s words.
‘My Paruthi Veeran will be a landmark movie in the history of Tamil cinema,’ says producer-director Ameer.
Addressing media persons in Chennai on Thursday, Ameer said, 'We have taken utmost efforts to give a movie without any commercial cliches. We believe in a strong storyline and script'.
The film features Suriya's sibling Karthi and Priya Mani in the lead roles.
On the movie's delay, Ameer said, 'When we planned to commence the shooting a year ago, all the locations selected by us were hit by heavy rain. Hence we had a delayed start.’
In between, Ameer had been to Goa for screening Ram in the International Film Festival and then to Cyprus for another film fest.
Ameer said, 'We have now completed shooting the entire talkie portion and the post production works have commenced. Plans are on to release the movie by December'.
On the highlights of Paruthi Veeran, Ameer said 'Cinematography by Ramji would be a special feature. He has shot without any artificial lights. More over all the artistes including 60 newcomers in the movie have played their part well. Yuvan Shankar's music has come out well with a couple of folk songs sure to top the audio charts'.
Heaping laurels on Karthi, Ameer said, ' He has given his heart out for the role and would achieve a lot in the industry'.
Karthi, who was also present on the occasion, thanked Ameer for giving him the right platform to make his debut'.

Varalaru - History of Godfather (2006)

Ajith plays the roles of a father and his two sons; as the father he is paired with Kanika. Ajith is a trained Bharathanatyam dancer whose very passion about the art leaves him with an effeminate look. This reflects on his personality culminating into a deep dent in his marriage proposal. In one of such incidents, Kanika ridicules him by commenting that she is interested in marrying only a man.Outraged by such a comment doubting his masculinity, Ajith rapes her. This violent indignation of modesty results in Kanika becoming the mother of twin boys. Out of the twins, one is being raised by the father and the other by the mother. Needless to say, the Ajith who is being raised by the mother grows up to become an honest man. But having fed by his mother to hate his father, he is on a trip of avenge.Varalaru - History of Godfather is scheduled to be released Diwali 2006. It was originally titled Godfather but due the State Government's order to grant entertainment tax exemption to movies titled in Tamil, prompted producer NIC Arts Chakravarthy and director K S Ravikumar to opt for a Tamil title for the movie. Godfather has been titled as Varalaru (meaning History). The film stars Ajith and Asin, and is directed by the veteran, K.S. Ravikumar. The film has been long delayed, originally slated for release in April 2005. Ramesh Khanna and Suman Shetty provide the comic relief. The film's score and soundtrack are composed by A. R. Rahman.
